India blames China for poor bilateral ties

Last Updated 20 November 2014, 19:38 IST

Accusing China of illegally occupying Aksai Chin, India on Thursday blamed Beijing for troubled ties  and reiterated that repeated troop incursions do not augur well for cordial bilateral relations.

New Delhi’s concerns were voiced at an election rally in Jammu and Kashmir’s Leh by Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh, who also tweeted excerpts of his speech.

“China has illegally occupied Aksai Chin and incursions by Chinese troops do not augur well for cordial relations with our neighbour,” Singh said. India wants to maintain good relations with its neighbours but the gesture should be reciprocated, he said. He said the relations between the two countries could touch new heights if there is “positive action and resolution of complicated issues like border dispute”.

“Congress lost Tibet to China which acted as the ‘Buffer State’ between the two countries and Pakistan handed over Aksai Chin area to China. India lost precious territory to China and Pakistan due to wrong policies of the Congress,” he alleged.

He said the BJP holds Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh region  extremely close to its heart. On the other hand, parties like the Congress believed that Ladakh was nothing more than a “cold desert”, he alleged.
