General Motors India today said its sales more than doubled to 8,258 units in December 2009, making it the highest-ever monthly sales in the 13 years of its operations in India.
During the corresponding period last year, General Motors India(GMI) had sold 4,041 units.

The company sold 4,147 units of the hatchback Chevrolet Spark, 616 units of the newly launched sedan Cruze and 859 units of the latest compact car Chevrolet Beat in December 2009, GMI said in a statement.

It also sold 493 units of premium hatchback Aveo U-Va, 374 units of entry level sedan Aveo, 168 units of mid sized sedan Chevrolet Optra, 1,519 units of the multi-utility vehicle Chevrolet Tavera, and 82 units of the SUV Chevrolet Captiva, it added.

Commenting on the company's sales performance, GM India Vice-President, P Balendran said: "Increase in distribution network, customer acceptance of our value proposition like Chevrolet Cashless Ownership offer on Spark and our brand promise in terms of quality, performance and other product attributes are the reasons for the consistent growth."
On the back of December sales, GM India has closed the third quarter of this financial year (April to December 2009) at 55,724 units against 47,786 units sold during the corresponding period last year, it added.

Maruti car sales up 50 percent in December

New Delhi: India's largest car manufacturer Maruti Suzuki Friday posted an increase of 50.6 percent in sales to 84,804 units in December this fiscal, compared to 56,293 vehicles in the same month last fiscal.
"This (84,804 units) includes 13,804 units of exports," the company said in a statement.
For April-December, sales grew 31.6 percent to 730,943 units over the same period in last fiscal.

Maruti's sales in the compact car (A2) segment comprising Alto, Wagon-R, Zen, Swift, Ritz and A-Star grew 41.8 percent over December 2008. The company sold 52,236 units in this segment as against 36,831 units last year.

Sale of models in its mid-sized (A3) segment comprising SX4 and D'Zire rose 20.2 percent to 7,843 cars in December. Exports were at 13,804 units in the month under review, up a whopping 223 percent over the previous corresponding period.

M&M sales rise over 100 pc in Dec 2009
New Delhi: Auto maker Mahindra & Mahindra today said its domestic sales in December 2009 has more than doubled to 22,754 units, as against 10,253 units in the same month previous year.

Total utility vehicle sales, including the Scorpio, the Xylo, the Bolero and Pick-Ups, stood at 16,999 units as against sales of 7,726 units in December 2008, 120 per cent up, M&M said in a statement.
Sales of sedan Logan from Mahindra Renault Pvt Ltd stood at 308 units during the month as against 272 units in the same month a year ago, up by 13.23 per cent, it added.

The company said sales of three-wheelers and newly launched four-wheeled small cargo carrier Gio during December 2009 stood at 4,747 units as against 1,934 units during the same month last year.

Light commercial vehicle sales from Mahindra Navistar Automotives Ltd during the month were at 700 units as against 321 units in the same month a year ago.
Exports during the month stood at 1,247 units as against 412 units in December 2008, it said.
For the ongoing fiscal, year-to-date domestic sales stood at 2,01,201 units in December 2009, as against 1,57,553 units for the same period last year, the company said.

Ford India posts 3 per cent sales growth in 2009
Mumbai: Leading car-maker, Ford India today said it sold 29,499 vehicles in 2009, clocking a 3 per cent year-on-year jump in its annual sales as compared to previous year.
Ford had sold a total of 28,563 units in 2008, it said in a press release.

Sales growth, on a year-on-year basis in the third and fourth quarters stood up by 23 and 22 per cent respectively. The company sold 8,025 units in Q3 and 7,065 units in Q4 of last year.
"We will see our business growing significantly in this dynamic market with our new Ford Figo to be launched in early 2010," Ford India Executive Director, Marketing (Sales & Service), Nigel Wark said.

During the year, sales growth of Ford's popular brand Ikon registered a jump of 196 per cent, as compared to a year back, Wark said.
Ford India is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Ford Motor Company and makes three models--Ikon, Endeavour and the Fiesta.
