Manipur youth dies at home after party

A 22-year-old Manipuri student was found dead under mysterious circumstances at his rented house in south Delhi’s Malviya Nagar on Thursday, police said.

The victim has been identified as Vihrill Shunni, a BA second-year student of English (Honours) at Sri Aurobindo College in Malviya Nagar.

Police believe it to be a case of natural death even as they are waiting for the victim’s autopsy report.

An Initial probe has revealed that Shunni partied with his friends at his house till early Thursday morning.

While some of his friends returned to their homes and went to college later in the day, Shunni and his flatmate were asleep till late.

Police said Shunni’s flatmate tried to wake him when he is about to leave for college at around 1.00 pm. He found that Shunni was not breathing.

“Shunni’s roommate became worried and immediately informed Shunni’s cousin who lives in the same locality in a rented house. The cousin along with his friend arrived at Shunni’s house and called a senior representative of the northeastern community in Delhi Police,” said a police officer.

Around 4.30 pm, Malviya Nagar police received a call about the death of a Manipuri student and reached Amanat Apartments where Shunni lived with his friends on the second floor.

“Shunni was lying dead in his bed. There were no visible injury marks on his body and nothing unusual or suspicious was found on the spot. We have sent the body for an autopsy and the report will only tell us the exact cause of his death,” the officer added.
Police have been questioning Shunni’s friends to understand the exact sequence of events that led to his death.

Police have been told that Shunni and some of his friends, including a woman, were at the flat for the party.

Around 11 am, Shunni’s cousin had come to his flat to meet him.
His roommate told him that Shunni was sleeping and asked his cousin if he wanted him to wake him up.

The cousin decided not to disturb Shunni and left saying he would come later.
No case has been filed yet. Police have obtained footage of CCTV cameras in the apartment complex.

Shunni’s family in Manipur has been informed and they are expected to reach the capital by Friday.
