Astrologer arrested for raping client

The Ramamurthy Nagar police arrested an astrologer on the charges of raping a 25-year-old software engineer on Wednesday.

According to the police, the victim, a native of West Bengal and employed with an IT company in Bengaluru, had settled in the City around a year ago.

On Wednesday, she approached Damodharan, 32, an astrologer in Hoysala Nagar, to check her horoscope.

She claimed that Damodaran checked her horoscope for more than an hour and gave her sedative-laced water and prasadam.

After consuming it, she lost consciousness. The suspect then raped her for over three hours.

When she regained consciousness, she realised what had happened to her and rushed out, after putting on her clothes. Damodaran tried to stop her, but she pulled herself away and fled the spot, the police said.

The victim informed her friend about the incident, who took her to the police station and lodged a complaint. The police arrested Damodaran on Thursday and remanded him in judicial custody.

Rowdy-sheeter dead

A 25-year-old rowdy-sheeter was hacked to death by unidentified men at his residence in Ramachandra Nagar early Saturday morning.

The jurisdictional Attibele police said Abhishek was strangled and stabbed to death. The incident came to light when his father returned home from work on Saturday morning and found his son lying in a pool of blood. He alerted the police who shifted the body to hospital for an autopsy.

The police, who suspect rivalry to be the motive behind the attack, said the murder must have occurred between 2 am and 5 am.

Abhishek was involved in a murder and attempt to robbery case. He was released from jail on bail around four months ago, the police said.
