Rights activists have decried the closure of schools and lining up of children for Samajwadi Party chief Mulayam Singh Yadav’s birthday celebrations in Rampur, terming it a blatant infringement on child rights.
Social activist Nutan Thakur has registered a complaint with the National Commission for Protection of Child Rights in this regard.
The complaint said that “forced lining up of children for hours to cheer a leader whom they possibly did not even know was definitely an infringement of child rights, being an offence under section 342 IPC”.
“Similarly, the closure of many schools on November 21 and 22 on the orders of the District Magistrate of Rampur for these celebrations is against the provisions of Right to Education Act,” Thakur said in her complaint.
