Last Updated 23 November 2014, 05:46 IST

A senior Congress leader and his son have been admitted at K R Hospital here on Saturday, for allegedly attempting to end their lives.

Prabhakar, 68, and his son Prathap, 38, were found in an unconscious state at their house in Ittigegud. Prabhakar had consumed an overdose of sleeping and blood pressure tablets, while Prathap had taken poison. Prabhakar, who has been associated with the grand old party for the last four decades, had even served as the president of NR Block Congress Committee once. He was also a staunch supporter of late leader and former minister Azeez Sait.

Though there are many versions about reasons for their suicide attempts, according to Congress workers, Prabhakar was pained to learn that his name did not figure in the tentative list of nominees to head boards and corporations. Prathap is said to have been deep in debt. NR MLA Tanveer Sait is said to have recommended Prabhakar’s name to the Chief Minister Siddaramaiah for a suitable position in any of the boards or corporations, considering his seniority.
