Last Updated 25 November 2014, 18:45 IST

Bon-D-Light Express, dedicated to spread awareness about the deficiency of Vitamin D, halted at the Chinmaya Mission Hospital in the City on Tuesday.

Scheduled to travel to 15 cities across the country, Bon-D-Light Express will be accompanied by six drama artistes who will perform 116 plays in 15 cities.
The plays aim to bring out all health and wellness aspects linked with Vitamin D deficiency in the human body.

These plays would be scripted in the local language for better reach.
The All India Institute of Medical Sciences and HEAL Foundation, in association with Glenmark, had launched Bon-D-Light Express in Delhi on the World Vitamin D Day.

The Express also has an expert healthcare specialist who will educate people on the deficiency of Vitamin D in regular Indian diet and the need for the right supplements which would meet the daily required Vitamin D for healthy functioning of human body.

Chinmaya Mission Hospital Medical Director Dr Sudhir said “In a country like India where people are largely oblivious to the role of Vitamin D in maintaining good health, such initiatives will not just help in increasing awareness among people but also in improving their general wellbeing.”

“It is important for people to understand that Vitamin D deficiency doesn’t have any early signs and symptoms which can act as marker to judge extent of the problem.

The body continues to function in a seemingly normal way, but at a mature stage in life, chronic deficiency could lead to serious health complications. Hence the need for early intervention and regular supplementation is very important,” Dr Sudhir added.
