Bengaluru-based band ‘Until We last’ describes its music as ‘post rock’. “It is more ambient and atmospheric,” explains Ketan Bahirat, the frontman and guitarist of the band who always had a passion for music. “I was studying in Jain University and used to keep making music at home. Then I started putting my work online,” he recalls. “But later, I wanted play live and ended up networking with the members of my band to form the group,” he adds. While the line-up of the band has changed since its formation three to four years ago, Paul Dharamraj, Ralston D’souza and Chaithanya Jade are the other members of the band. “From a studio project, it has now become a collective effort,” informs Ketan.

The name ‘Until We Last’ is more of an emotion, he says. “We all are doing so much in the name of development. But we are ignoring the fact that the trees are getting cut and the environment is getting destroyed. So ‘Until We Last’ refers to the time period between creation and destruction. “We don’t have any lyrics or vocals. We use only instruments. When we get an idea, we work towards it. For instance, we have a song called ‘Rain’, which starts in a mellow way and then an exciting build-up. It then slows down again just like the rain!”

Ask them about their inspirations, and they say they have grown up listening to different kinds of music. “Be it pop, metal or even Indian classical music, we enjoy every kind of music. It’s hard to name one artiste or band that has inspired all of us,” he adds.

The band enjoys playing at in its own City — Bengaluru as Ketan says, “The audience is smart and educated here. But of late, EDM has been gaining a lot of popularity thanks to the IT boom and the people from various cities who come here to work.”

The four artistes are all set to play at the well-known ‘Magnetic Fields’ at Alsisar Mahal in Rajasthan this month. “This is our second time at the festival and we are looking foward to interacting with all the other artistes,” he exclaims. “The crowd today is very smart and knows what it wants. The audience is evolving and with music being free online, people educate themselves about the various genres of music,” he adds.

‘Until We Last’ is set to release more music the next year. “We really enjoy working on our own music. We want to play music as much as we can,” he sums up.
