Four injured as bull goes on the rampage

The quiet city of Tumakuru was on Monday witness to a bull rage, that had its residents literally on the run.

The animal went berserk and injured four people on the Barline Road here on Monday morning. It was finally captured, but not before the rampaging animal sustained injuries on its limbs.

The bull charged from the K R Layout Road side at 8.30 am and attacked two people, injuring them in the process.

The animal also scared a few others who tried to chase it away. As a result, people in the vicinity ran helter-skelter. The bull ran towards the Barline Circle and then halted at a temple nearby. Soon, personnel of the department of animal husbandry came to the spot. Their efforts at tranquilising the bull did not bear fruit.

Disturbed by the cries of the crowd that had gathered, the bull pushed two-wheelers parked in the area. It gored a woman coming from the opposite direction, before running towards the police grounds.

The animal was then chased towards the temple, where tractors were parked around it. Some people in the crowd threw a rope around its neck. The panicked bull was injured in the limbs, when it tried to jump over the tractors.

It looked as if the bull would die of asphyxiation, when some in the crowd poured water into the animal’s mouth, much to its relief and it opened its eyes.

Animal husbandry department officials said that the bull would be sheltered in a goshala (a shelter for cattle). Local residents expressed anger over the inaction of the City Corporation in not sheltering stray cattle in the goshalas. One of the officials said that bulls usually go on the rampage if someone hits them or if the female partner goes missing.
