The High Court on Thursday imposed a cost of Rs 50,000 on BBMP for not taking action regarding a pipeline carrying sewage that passes through the campus of Bosch Limited.

Hearing a petition by Bosch, Justice Ram Mohan Reddy directed the BBMP commissioner to remove the pipeline and to recover Rs 50,000 from the BBMP engineers who had not attended to the complaint.

During the hearing, the bench observed that it was the duty of the civic body to ensure sewage does not enter stormwater drains or any water body.

Bosch had lodged a complaint with the BBMP that a pipeline had been laid right in the middle of a road on its campus by a private agency. The petitioner contended that residents of Manjunathanagar and Veerappa Reddy Layout in Parappana Agrahara were letting out the sewage into the pipeline.

The pipeline, nearly 500 metres long, empties into the Parappana Agrahara tank and is polluting the tank and its surroundings, the petition said. The court disposed of the petition.
