Karnataka Mobile-One, the State government’s ambitious mobile-governance project of providing a host of government and private services on the cell phone, will be launched by President Pranab Mukherjee in Bengaluru on Monday.

Dubbed as a first of its kind initiative in the country, anyone with a mobile phone can access the services by dialling the number 161.

President Mukherjee is scheduled to arrive in Bengaluru on Monday afternoon by a special Indian Air Force plane for the launch, to be held at Bangalore International Exhibition Centre (BIEC). He will leave for New Delhi the same evening.

The services, which will be available in the first phase, will include electricity, water, BSNL telephone bill payment, paying traffic fines, information services, updates in status of applications, traffic alerts, query on bus timings among others.

A smart phone is not necessarily required to access the services.
In all, more than 4,000 government and private services will be available.
