Rocky S is synonymous with haute fashion. As Bollywood’s de facto designer-in-chief, he is also hot property among the country's frontline fashionistas.

Rocky is best known for his jackets, kurtas, lehengas and dares to club the wildest of combinations and make them look trendy and haute. Metrolife picked the jacket and asked Rocky to explore the use of the garment to the fullest.  “It’s interesting to experiment with the cut of the jackets. It’ very important to have little intricacy in the work or style of the jacket to make it indifferent,” Rocky said.

Jackets come in all shapes and sizes. Some full length, some up to the waist and some others even shorter. The colour, cuts and style is what captures one’s attention and imagination. Rocky thinks that jackets with interesting and unusual cuts are up for grabs this season. “Ripped leather jackets, quilted jackets, unique bomber jackets are in vogue and you’d find them on most men you stumble upon,” he observes.

Team it right!

Jackets too have undergone a transformation of sorts. They’ve borne the test of time and have been given a drastic makeover. Jackets don’t stick to a particular form. They are neither totally Western nor Indian but a fusion of sorts and are paired with the wildest of clothing. “Jackets can be teamed with denims, khakis, trousers, Jodhpur pants with linen kurtas, tie and dyed, hooded tee shirts to derive a Indo-western look,” says Rocky.

Tweak the jacket a little at the collar, handcuffs, maybe tighten the waist and let it flare downward — all of this gives the jacket a whole new feel. But the buttons are what make all the difference and spruces up the look of just about any jacket. It could vary is size and shape, even the designs could be loud or kept simple. “Buttons play a very important role in jazzing up the look of the jackets. Metal buttons with royal engraving, fabric covered buttons, and vintage buttons can be used to give the jacket a particular look,” he says.

Jackets aren’t restricted to occasions nor are they seasonal. They’re worn all the time and have become an inseparable part of any man’s choice of clothing. “The best part about them is that they can be worn at any time of the day. They can give a casual look during day and dazzle up the look for a rocking party at night,” he wraps up.

These guys are possessive about their jackets

Asif Ahmad's jackets hold a mirror to the world he has criss-crossed. Twenty-five in number, Asif's jackets come in all shapes, sizes and cuts and designs but one factor that underpins them all is their simplicity and elegance.

Asif's favourite jacket shopping destination is Dubai, particularly Zara Man. “They are the best. You do have Aramani here but none of them match up to Zara. Those with less work and sleek cuts are what catch my attention,” Asif says.

Jackets, he says, have no occasion. He wears them at all times and confesses that there are those he hasn’t used for years — all lying untouched. The jacket that I wear depends on my mood, the place and of course the weather. “I wear it with jeans at anytime. I never wear them on Khakis and sometimes I pair it up with trousers as well," he sums up. Twenty nine-year-old Bharat Babu, an employee with the IBM swears by branded jackets.

“I wouldn’t mind paying up to Rs 30,000 for a sleek, well cut and one with heavy embellishments when it comes to formal wear. The casuals must be simple but elegant,” says Bharat. Bharat usually pairs jackets with jeans. His colour preferences revolve around black and blue.
