Representatives of various women’s organisations expressed their anger over the officials of the district at a meeting presided over by Women’s Commission Chairperson Manjula Manasa in Hassan, on Tuesday.

Members of the organisations alleged that the Police and other authorities concerned have not taken any steps to curb the continued atrocities against women.

Writer Roopa Hassan highlighted the foeticide cases, which are still being performed in Hassan city. Though the incidents have been brought to the notice of the authorities concerned, no raids have been conducted or cases registered in this regard, she complained.

Reacting to this, Manjula Manasa questioned the officials, “There are 53 scanning centres in the city, which itself raises suspicion. Why did you not conduct any raid?”
Creating awareness on the same is the need of the hour, she stressed.
Manjula also directed the Health department officials to submit a report on the number of women who had undergone hysterectomy following the superstition at Gollarahattis in the district.

According to the women in Gollarahattis, Dr Jagadish and Dr Ravindra had conducted hysterectomy on them. She directed submission of complete details, as they have been transferred.

Village stay

“Lord Krishna would not approve of women of his community suffering due to isolation during either menstruation or while delivering a baby,” said Manasa, at Yadavarahatti, of Koranahalli Koppalu village, on Monday night.

Inaugurating the ‘Village Stay Programme to Create Awareness Against Superstitions’, organised by Kachigatta Gram Panchayat and Pragathipara Vedike, she called upon the members of the Yadava community to review their practises and adopt modernism.

Consideration

Community leader Erappa said, the people needed some time before they could do away with the age-old practises. “The issue will be taken up with the leaders of the community in various colonies,” he assured.

Tahsildar Nataraj, Taluk Panchayat Executive Officer H C Chandrasekhar and DySP Sajit were present.
