Owner of a Noida-based real estate company was killed near Connaught Place after his Audi rammed into a loaded truck at a traffic signal.

The victim’s two young employees, including a woman, are undergoing treatment for critical injuries and they are yet to regain consciousness, police said.

The impact of the crash was such that it took the disaster management team almost one and a half hours to pull out the driver who was declared dead on arrival at Lok Nayak Hospital.

The truck driver abandoned his vehicle and escaped from the spot soon after the accident. Whether he too was injured or not is yet to be known. Police said they have traced the owner of the truck, bearing a Haryana number plate, and hope to soon catch him.

Senior police officers said they are yet to construct the sequence of events and establish who was at fault. They are awaiting the improvement in the condition of the two injured car occupants to take down their statements.

Whether the dead person was drunk or not would be known only after the autopsy report arrives, said police.

A case of rash driving and causing death by negligence has been registered with Barakhamba police station.

Intezar, 30, owns the Zephyr Infratech company that has its office in Noida sector 3. He and his employee Sushiv Kumar Mishra, 22, lived in Ghaziabad’s Vaibhav Khand.

The woman, Suman, also aged 22, lives in a paying guest accommodation. “Her parents were informed about the incident, but they were unaware of the PG address,” police said.

Police said the three appeared to be returning from a wedding. The Audi Q3 was coming from CP area and heading towards Mandi House via Barakhamba Road.
The truck was headed from Jantar Mantar direction when the accident took place at the Tolstoy crossing on Barakhamba Road.

Some personnel deployed at a police picket near the accident spot were the first to learn about the accident that was reported to local police at 1.48 am.

“Given the extent of damage to the Audi, it appears that either one or both of the vehicles were being driven at a very high speed. But there is no CCTV camera in the area and no eyewitness has emerged so far,” the officer told Deccan Herald.

A disaster management team armed with gas cutters and other equipment arrived from Shakarpur within 15 minutes of the accident.

“The people seated behind were rescued in about half an hour. But it took almost one and a half hours to rescue the driver,” the officer said.
