Nathan Lyon’s figures 103/2 don’t do justice to the way he bowled. The off-spinner tossed up the ball, made full use of the rough created by bowlers’ run-up and extracted enough turn to tease the batsmen.

“Yeah, felt pretty good actually,” said Lyon of his bowling on the third day. “The ball was coming out of the hand nicely but we are just half way through the job at this stage. Still five wickets are there to be taken but hoping get them out early tomorrow and bat,” he remarked.

Lyon said he wasn’t surprised by India’s fightback. “They are team of super stars. All credit to Virat Kohli, he has really batted well. But I think the game is still in the balance and if we are able to get those five wickets and get a good lead, then the pressure is going to be right on India.”

He also, only in jest, thanked Ishant Sharma for creating those footmarks while bowling round the wicket to David Warner on the opening day. "We had big Ishant running down the middle of the wicket bowling to Davey Warner around the wicket, so thankful for him making some footmarks for me and bowling around the wicket to Davey. Hopefully he bowls there again and does it for the whole series...”

On a more serious note he said it was all about variation while talking about Ajinkya Rahane’s dismissal. "That's all part of the variation. We knew if I was able to keep putting the ball in the rough there something was going to give. I'm lucky enough that one kicked there, took the glove and popped up for a nice catch for Watson.”
