Moving on the right track

A well-equipped electrical wheelchair is all set to ply on the roads of Bengaluru soon thanks to Bindiganavele Venkata Narayan. Narayan, as he likes to call himself, always had the aim to help the differently-abled commute easily and this led him to invent the wheelchair.

Fully equipped with a protection guard and alarm safety measures, the wheelchair is self-propelled unlike the normal ones that need to be pushed. After looking at a basic demonstration, the user can commute easily even on busy stretches.
“This wheelchair has a single lever which manages a variety of functions. From the accelerator to the brake, it can be operated without having to change the movements. Another speciality is that it can be taken inside the house, office and elevator with ease,” says the 54-year-old man.
He adds, “The user can sleep, eat, read and also use the laptop on this wheelchair. It is highly flexible and can be used in several ways.”
The components of the vehicle are the same like that of any other electrical vehicle. It runs on a normal battery and can be operated continuously for more than an hour. It needs to be charged for six hours and can be charged with the help of any socket. Priced at Rs 1,00,000, the vehicle can go up to 15 kilometres per hour, be repaired by any mechanic and customised as per the individual’s needs.

He says, “I made a five-wheeled motor bike on the request of a friend’s son, who is handicapped. It then occurred to me that I could make a vehicle which can move easily on the road,” he said.

“My vision is to help the handicapped people commute without any problem. I would like to share my idea with companies that have the manpower and technology to manufacture more such vehicles for the benefit of the differently-abled,” says Narayan.

A former cyclist who cycled to about 59 countries and covered 98,000 kilometres, Narayan was passionate about vehicles since childhood. This led him to build a five-wheel motor bike, which also helped him travel around the world.

Narayan further plans to build a three-in-one vehicle where a single engine has multiple functions.

“With this engine, the vehicle can be flown in the air, shipped and used on the road. I will be going abroad soon to talk about this project and obtain a sanction,” he says.  Narayan can be contacted on 9632201189.
