<p>A seven-year-old girl lost her life to the “punishment” by her grandmother for eating charcoal, in Devanahalli police limits on Sunday.<br /><br /></p>.<p>According to police, Divya died of suffocation after her grandmother, 48-year-old Muniakkayyamma (in pic), tied a rope around her (Divya’s) neck and threw the girl to the ground repeatedly.<br /><br />Muniakkayyamma resides with her sons in a slum at Baichapura and Divya was the daughter of Adesh, her eldest son. Adesh is no more. Divya and her brother Diwakar were staying with their uncle Bhujendra.<br /><br />Divya had stopped going to the school recently and moved to Muniakkayyamma’s house. The latter is a labourer and used to consuming liqour every day. <br /><br />Divya had the habit of chewing charcoal. Muniakkayyamma’s efforts to make Divya give up the habit had not yielded any results. <br /><br />On Sunday, the grandmother found Divya chewing charcoal. She asked her to threw it away from her mouth, but the kid ignored. An enraged Muniakkayyamma tied a rope around Divya’s neck, lifed her up and threw on the ground, police said.<br /><br />Divya suffered injuries and was suffocated as she fell on the ground. Bhujendra, who returned home sometime later, found Divya unconscious. He took her to a nearby hospital where the girl was declared brought dead.Diwakar narrated the whole incident and Bhujendra lodged a complaint against his mother. Muniakkayyamma told the police that she did not intend to kill Divya. She has been arrrested.<br /><br />Painter murdered<br />A 50-year-old painter was allegedly murdered by his friend at M Hosur in Chikkajala police limits on Sunday. The deceased has been identified as Rajanna.<br /><br />Rajanna and his friend Ajay consumed liquor together. Ajay’s sister-in-law (brother’s wife) had passed away recently and he went to burial ground to pay his respects. Rajanna too accompanied him. <br /><br /><br /></p>
