A soft skills training programme was organised for constables by Delhi Traffic Police at Delhi University's Shivaji College on Monday.

It was a first-of-its-kind exercise aimed at ensuring better communication between traffic police personnel and road users.

“We began with a batch of 150 personnel, both male and female participants,” a police officer said. Similar batches will attend subsequent sessions.

The programme includes issues ranging from general conversational skills and improving first impressions to personal development through meditation and motivational talks.

It has been started on a trial basis by the Western Range of Delhi Traffic Police, but will be  repeated in other ranges, if found  successful.

“This training will help our personnel engage with the public more effectively and perhaps even allow them enough time to pass a few suggestions on road safety to the public in the process,” the officer added.
