200 cr needed for women's empowerment in State

State Women’s Development Corporation President Vaasanthi Shivanna has requested Chief Minister Siddaramaiah to earmark Rs 200 crore for the empowerment of women, in the upcoming budget. She said that financial strengthening would reduce atrocity against women.

Speaking to media persons here on Wednesday, she said that corporation would offer financial assistance to poor girls according to their skills. They should develop equal to men in society and the corporation would help them in all possible ways in this aspect. There is a need of extend the limit and scope of the corporation. To promote self-employment among women, the corporation has urged the government to sanction loans upto Rs 50 lakh through State Finance Commission.

In the district, 55 per cent development has been achieved under ‘Udyogini’ scheme. Loan upto Rs 1 lakh can be sanctioned for self-employment under this scheme. Till date, Rs 80,82,500 has been sanctioned to 120 beneficiary women. Market facility has been provided for the products by women businessmen under market scheme. Under computer training programme, target has been set for each taluk.

Around 134 Nagara Sthree Shakthi groups have been formed under Nagara Sthree Shakthi scheme. Only 11 applications have been submitted to get facilities under sex workers’ rehabilitation scheme, she informed.

Malnad Region Development Board President B C Geetha, Women and Children Welfare Department Deputy Director Deshpande, Corporation Development Inspector Pavithra were present.
