<p>Six persons including five of a family drowned in the backwaters of Basavasagara reservoir after the coracle they were travelling capsized near Koujaganur in Hungund taluk on Wednesday.<br /><br /></p>.<p>The deceased have been identified as Mallavva Madiwalara (38), Manjula Madiwalara (18), Huligevva Madiwalara (18), Savithri Madiwalara (6), Sachin Madiwalara (5) - all of a same family, and Kariyappa Barakera (35), the sailor. Two more persons - Renuka Madiwalara (35) and Mahantesh Madiwalara (20) managed to swim to the bank.<br /><br />Renuka threw the saree she was wearing towards her children, Savithri and Sachin, in a desperate attempt to save them. However, her attempt went in vain.<br /><br />All were returning to their home after attending a marriage in Amaravadagi village.
