A man attempted suicide at his home in Srirampura on Friday, fearing arrest and retribution, after posting objectionable comments on Facebook against Karnataka Rakshana Vedike president T A Narayana Gowda.

According to Sampigehalli police, Harish, 36, tried to end his life by hanging himself on learning that the police were at his doorstep. The police, however, broke open the door and rushed him to a nearby hospital, where doctors said he was out of danger.

The police said that on November 3, Gowda had filed a complaint at the Upparpet police station that Harish, in the name of ‘Deal Narayan’, had posted objectionable posts against him on Facebook. The police, after verifying the facts, registered a case against Harish under Section 66 (A) of the Information Technology Act.

“Our men went to question him in this connection, but he attempted suicide fearing arrest,” a police officer said.

Harish and Gowda were working together but had fallen out recently, he said. The Sampigehalli police have registered a case of attempt to commit suicide against Harish.
