Isha makes strong start

Third seed and former national champion Isha Lakhani started her campaign at the USD 10,000 ITF Women’s Futures tournament in style with a fluent 6-2, 6-1 win over Sonya Dayal here on Monday.

In contrast, Treta Bhattacharyya advanced to the second round with a hard fought victory over talented Aishwarya Agrawal. Bhattacharyya faced a stiff challenge from Agrawal before registering a 6-3, 7-6 (3) win in the first round at the DLTA Complex here.

Rashmi Teltumbde also advanced with an easy 6-1, 6-1 win over compatriot Rani Smita Jain.

However, it was curtains for Shweta Rana, Shivika Burman, Radhika Jadhav and Sweta Kumari Solanki.
