Serial accident: BMTC bus driver held

The Banasawadi traffic police on Thursday arrested the driver of the BMTC bus that caused the serial accident on the Lingarajpuram flyover on Wednesday evening killing four people and injuring four others. The driver, Murugendra, 37, resident of Byrathi Bande, claimed that he failed to control the bus as the brakes failed.

“The cause of the accident is yet to be ascertained. Murugendra claimed that the brakes of the bus failed. We have sought the opinion of the Motor Vehicle Inspector. We would ascertain the cause after he submits his report,” DCP (East-Traffic) M N Babu Rajendra Prasad told Deccan Herald.

The police have booked Murugendra for rash and negligent driving. He was produced before the judge and was remanded in judicial custody, DCP added.

The police have identified the fourth victim of the accident as Khader Nawaz, 63, of Tilak Nagar. Mohammad Nurulla, Aslam Ahmed K and Syed Muneer are the other three who were killed in the accident.

Woman killed in accident

A middle-aged woman was killed on the spot after she came under a running train in Yeshvantpur railway police limits on Thursday. 

The identity of the deceased is yet to be ascertained. The accident occurred early in the morning near Gollahalli-Doddabele. A guard noticed the body and alerted the control room. The police rushed to the spot and shifted the body. It is not known whether it is a case of accident or suicide, said the police.
