JOIN USThe vacation bench of the High Court on Friday gave its nod to a habeas corpus petition filed by Arun Krishna Sail, seeking the release of his brother Satish Sail.
The court disposed of the petition by observing that if the Karwar MLA was not arrested in six other cases he was involved in, he can be released from prison.
Arun had contended that Sail was booked in seven different cases with regard to the illegal iron ore stocked up at the Belekeri port in Karwar. However, he was arrested only in the main case.
He pointed out that the special CBI court, which is hearing the matter, had recently granted bail to him in that case. He contended that even after the grant of bail, he was not released from jail. He further contended that for the remaining six cases, production warrant was issued by the special CBI court.
Hearing the contentions, the court on Friday disposed of the petition observing that if Sail has not been arrested in other cases, he should be released from the jail.
