Rain lashes TN after two weeks of dry weather

Last Updated 28 December 2014, 21:32 IST

After two weeks of dry weather, rain lashed several parts of Tamil Nadu under the influence of a low pressure area with the retreating of the North East monsoon.

“The well-marked low pressure over the South West Bay off the Sri Lanka coast persists and it may concentrate into a depression during the next 48 hours. Under its influence, heavy rain will occur throughout Tamil Nadu,” a senior weather official said on Sunday evening.

According to the latest weather bulletin, rain or thundershowers may occur at most places in the state as well as Puducherry in the next two days. Fishermen have been warned not to venture out to sea as there will be strong onshore winds from the north easterly direction, with speeds occasionally reaching 55 kmph, along the Tamil Nadu and Puducherry coast. “Fishermen there are advised to be cautious while venturing out to open sea and not to go to deep sea fishing,” the official said.
