It's RSS Vs BJP in PM Modi's adopted village

Last Updated 29 December 2014, 06:23 IST

Prime Minister Narendra Modi's adopted village Jayapur in Varanasi is caught up in a bitter power struggle between BJP and RSS.

The village shot into fame after Modi adopted it, under the Saansad Adarsh Gram Yojana.
But the differences between local BJP and RSS leaders are reportedly coming the way of its development.

The BJP-run panchayat and the RSS most recently clashed over deciding the date for celebrating the birthday of the village, reports The Telegraph.

The local panchayat head Durga Devi,a  BJP leader,  wants to celebrate the village's birthday on Nov 7, the day when Modi had adopted the village.

Whereas, the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) deputy district chief Arvind wants the villagers to observe the village's birthday on the occasion of Ekadashi.

While both the RSS and the panchayat claim to play a vital role in the development of Jayapur, the villagers say that none of them have done any good to their village, which lacks basic amenities such as schools, hospitals and roads.

"Now that Modiji has adopted this village, both the Sangh and the panchayat head are competing to claim credit. They only want to get their names and pictures on television and in the newspapers," said one of the villagers, as quoted in The Telegraph.
