Celebrating the heritage of classical dance

Giving students an insight into the rich cultural heritage of Indian classical dance, Institute of Technology and Management (ITM) University, Gurgaon organised a Bharatanatyam concert by Ragini Chandrashekar.

Under the aegis of The Society for the Promotion of Indian Classical Music and Culture Amongst Youth (SPIC MACAY) Chandrashekar performed at the institute recently.

She performed on two devotional poems and beautifully explained the meaning through her abhinaya, nritya and mudrayein. She was accompanied by S Shankaron Nattuvangam and M V Chandershekar on Mridangam, RajatPrasanna on flute along with vocalist K Venkateswaran. Chandrashekar also addressed the queries of the guests in relation to the Bharatanatyam.

The dance performance was followed by an orientation programme conducted by Dr Kiran Seth, the founder and president of SPIC MACAY. Dr Seth discussed about his ideas to make youngsters strike a chord with Indian culture.

He encouraged the students to be a part of the SPIC MACAY movement and spread the message across various institutions. SPIC MACAY promotes Indian classical music, classical dance, and other aspects of Indian culture.

“ITM University, apart from aspiring for academic excellence, has always been promoting the values and wisdom embodied in the Indian heritage amongst the youth, with a hope that these will influence their way of life and inspire them to become a better human being,” said one of the faculty members of the university.
