Upalokayukta Justice Subhash B Adi on Tuesday directed the BBMP Commissioner M Lakshminarayana to act strictly against the unauthorised hoardings flexes and banners in the City.

In a strongly-worded letter to Lakshminarayana, Justice Adi said despite giving sufficient time, if there is a failure on the part of the officials concerned, it would tantamount to dereliction of duty and negligence, and abetting criminal act in collusion with such unscrupulous non-believers of law.

“You being the executive head, you would be also responsible for the menace of the unauthorised hoardings, flexes, banners etc.

Hence, forthwith issue such instructions or directions as necessary to the officials concerned to act and strictly prevent unauthorised and illegal hoardings, flexes etc in the City of Bengaluru,” Justice Adi said in his letter to the BBMP Commissioner.

Justice Adi, in August, had summoned the joint commissioners and the revenue officials of all the eight zones of the BBMP over the said issue. The officials had sought three months time, which expired in November.

The deadline was extended further and the now the next date fixed for reporting compliance is Jan 5, 2015. However, there is no progress made against the illegal hoardings, banners and flexes.

Time running out

“Already enough time has been granted to the officials to act boldly and promptly without fear or favour, as such, it is expected from them that they would definitely take serious note of the concerns of this institution and would ensure zero tolerance towards illegal hoardings, flexes, banners in the City,” said Justice Adi.
