Togadia seeks uniform civil code

Last Updated 31 December 2014, 05:46 IST

Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) General Secretary Praveenbhai Togadia has urged the Centre to implement uniform civil code across the country.

Addressing a gathering at district VHP convention here on Tuesday, the VHP leader said, “No one is above the law of the land. There should not be a separate civil code or set of laws for Muslims.

In tune with aspirations enshrined in the Constitution, soon a common civil code should be implemented,” he said.

Taking a dig at the ruling Congress in the State on its proposed Hindu Religious Institutions and Charitable Endowments (Amendment) Bill, the VHP leader alleged that Chief Minister Siddaramaiah was out to control Hindu mutts. “Does he have the courage to interfere in the affairs of mosques and churchs,” he questioned.

Togadia said that love jihad was one of the forms of forceful conversions. He called upon the Hindus to take pledge on construction of Ram Mandir at Ayodhya.
