<p>A five-year-old female leopard was found dead near a tank at Martur village in the taluk here on Friday night.<br /><br /></p>.<p>Forest department officials said the wild cat may have died due to suffocation after being trapped in a fencing wire. It may have got trapped while going to the tank to drink water, officials added.<br /><br />‘Not natural death’<br /><br />“This is not a natural death. It looks like villagers have plotted this after the same leopard killed a cow last week in Gamategatta near Iduvani village, said P P Byanerjee, Deputy Conservator of Forests.<br /><br />A case will be booked, he said, adding that all efforts are being taken to identify those responsible for the death of the leopard.<br /><br />Assistant conservator of forests Venkatesh, range forest officer Nanjudappa and other officials visited the spot on Saturday morning. <br /><br />A team of veterinary doctors headed by Sudhir Gowda conducted the post mortem.
