JOIN USAn eight-year-old girl was allegedly sexually assaulted by her 14-year-old neighbour at her house in south Delhi’s Vasant Kunj on Friday.
Police have apprehended the boy, who faces a rape charge.
The victim and the accused stay at Rangpuri Pahadi jhuggi cluster in Vasant Kunj. Police said the boy allegedly assaulted her with a pencil.
After noticing that she was hurt, the girl’s mother took her to Safdarjung Hospital, where a medical examination confirmed sexual assault.
In her statement to police, the girl’s mother said she had seen the boy and the girl playing on a bed at their home on Friday.
The girl narrated to her mother how she was hurt while playing.
“The victim was not alone at the home when the incident took place,” said a police officer.
The boy fled from the home after the assault, while the girl was seen crying by her mother. After the victim’s medical examination, the hospital authorities informed police around 3 pm. On Saturday, police apprehended the boy at Rangpuri Pahadi.
A case under Indian Penal Code and Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act has been registered with Vasant Kunj South police station.
The assault is categorised as rape under The Criminal Law (Amendment) Act.
