Necessary funds required for the development of Freedom Fighters Park, Subbarayanakere, will be provided by the State government, assured Revenue Minister V Srinivas Prasad, here on Monday.

Speaking at a programme organised to felicitate chairpersons of various boards and corporations, held at Freedom Fighters Memorial inside the Park, he said that electricity and water connection to the memorial will be provided soon.

“The Park has inspired several freedom fighters from the city to revolt against colonial rule. While people from outside the city acknowledge the importance of the landmark, residents living close to the Park prefer to tether cattle around it. Mysore City Corporation should raise awareness among them,” he said.

President of Freedom Fighters Association, M G Krishnamurthy sought funds to erect a compound around the Park. “Rs 65 lakh has been released to erect the compound, which is insufficient. MCC and MUDA should sanction additional funds for the overall development of the Park,” he said.

Freedom was achieved for a good purpose. Unfortunately, the country is staring at a poor political scenario, he added.
