5 fresh cases of swine flu reported in capital

Five fresh cases of swine flu were reported in the Capital on Tuesday taking the total number of cases this season here to 14.

While two patients who tested positive for the H1N1 flu virus have been admitted to the Centre-run Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital, one has been admitted to a private hospital. Two others are recuperating at their homes.

“A 31-year-old woman and 38-year-old woman have been admitted to RML Hospital. They are residents of Mehrauli and Mansa Ram Park respectively. Another 44-year-old woman from Sagar Pur is recuperating in a private hospital. Two men are undergoing treatment at home. They are residents of Preet Vihar and Uttam Nagar,” said Dr Charan Singh, nodal officer for swine flu, Delhi government.

The cases recorded on Tuesday were those reported till 4 pm.

“There is no reason to panic. However, the state-run, Centre-run and even private hospitals are well prepared to deal with swine flu cases. The government is well stocked of medicines for swine flu. We are replenishing the stocks from time to time,” said Dr Singh.

Swine flu symptoms are similar to other flu symptoms. Doctors said there need to be more awareness among citizens to step up level of hygiene in daily lives.

Meanwhile, even though there is no alert on the flu, the Health Department is planning to issue guidelines to raise public awareness on the virus.

“We are planning to release messages to raise public awareness on the dos and don’ts of swine flu in a couple of days. The messages will be given through different media for greater outreach. We also have a helpline operational in Delhi,” said Dr Singh.
