HPCL Mumbai refinery starts producing Euro-IV petrol

The company plans to begin supplies of Euro-IV petrol from April 1, when the nation switches to the clearner auto fuels.

From April 1, petrol and diesel meeting Euro-IV specifications has to be supplied in 13 metro cities while Euro-III fuel would be supplied in rest of the country. Euro IV and III standards specify a maximum of 50 parts per million and 350 parts per million, respectively, of sulfur in petrol and diesel.

HPCL, the nation's third-largest state-run refiner, said Mumbai refinery had undertaken the project for up-gradation of petrol quality to meet Euro-III and EURO-IV specifications. This project consists of three major units namely, naphtha hydrotreating / catalytic reformer, FCCU naphtha dydrotreater and isomerisation unit.

These unites were commissioned phase-wise from May 2009 with the last one getting commissioned on January 4.
