The fate of many families hangs in balance as it has now emerged that the flats they have purchased at Yamare village in Anekal taluk are built on a rajakaluve (stormwater drain).

The Bengaluru Urban district authorities on Friday planned to demolish the encroached portion of the apartment. However, the operation could not be taken up due to delay in the arrival of earthmovers and other vehicles, officials said.

“It was alleged that the builder had encroached upon 700 metres of SWD for a residential project at Yamare in Anekal which has 140 flats. The builder claims that he has not encroached upon the rajakaluve. We conducted the survey and found truth in the allegation,” said an officer requesting anonymity.

Meanwhile, the district authorities reclaimed two acres of allegedly encroached upon by a developer in Rajapura village of  Jigani hobli, Anekal taluk. Officials requesting anonymity put the value of the land at Rs 12 crore.

Around two acres of lake land encroached upon by private persons was reclaimed in Ramohalli.
