Rape victim stabs accused on bail, cops hunt for her

A rape victim allegedly stabbed the accused in north-west Delhi’s Jahangirpuri on Wednesday. The 25-year-old man is undergoing treatment while the woman is absconding, police said on Thursday.

Sameer was arrested in the rape case in September 2014 and released last week on parole to attend his sister’s wedding.

Police said Sameer had met the woman through a common friend in 2013.

She was married but had been staying separately from her husband. She had taken a house on rent in south Delhi’s Chhatarpur Extension.

“Sameer had been working as a bouncer at a nightclub when he met the woman,” said a police officer.

They became friends and Sameer started living with her at her house. It is alleged that Sameer developed physical relation promising that he will marry her.

During the period, the woman also got pregnant and it is claimed that Sameer forced her to undergo an abortion. After the procedure, the woman asked Sameer to marry her, but he refused.

Over Sameer’s continuous refusal, she had approached police in February 2014. They attended counselling sessions and reached a compromise.

However, Sameer went ahead to marry another woman in September 2014.

It is also alleged that Sameer had made video clips on his mobile phone and threatened the woman with dire consequences when she threatened to approach police.

Sameer was arrested after a case under sections 376 (rape) and 313 (causing miscarriage without woman’s consent) of the Indian Penal Code was registered in September 2014.

Sameer was sent on judicial custody to Tihar Jail and released on parole on January 10 to attend his sister’s wedding.

It is alleged that the woman was aware of Sameer’s parole and went to Jahangirpuri on Wednesday.

She allegedly attacked Sameer outside his house and managed to flee before locals gathered there.

Sameer sustained a stab wound in the abdomen and is undergoing treatment in Babu Jagjivan Ram Memorial Hospital.

A case of attempt to murder under section 307 of the Indian Penal Code has been filed with Jahangirpuri police station.
