K'taka govt to resume Chardham Yatra subsidy

Last Updated 16 January 2015, 20:37 IST

Uttarakhand Tourism Minister Dinesh Dhanai on Friday said the Karnataka government had assured him that they will restart the process of granting 30 per cent subsidy from the Endowment and Muzarai Department for Chardham Yatra pilgrims.

“For reasons unknown, the subsidy was stopped by the Karnataka government, but now they have agreed to resume it.

Such subsidy is given by all other state governments to help people complete Chardham Yatra at least once in their lifetime,” Dhanai told reporters on the sidelines of the inauguration of the three-day long Travel and Tourism Fair (TTF) at Dr Prabhakar Kore Convention Centre in Bengaluru.

Dhani said from November 2014 the Uttarakhand government had started winter Chardham Yatra for tourists with the aim of reducing peak season tourism rush.
