BIDDING ADIEU

Remembering the legend

It was a sentiment shared by all those, who had assembled at the Palace Grounds to pay their final tributes to the four veterans of the Kannada film industry. The demise of these four, at the end of the year, created a sudden “vacuum” in the film industry. A space, that many felt, cannot be filled again.

The tribute was not only well-attended by the seniors of the industry, the younger brigade like Shivarajkumar, Sudeep, Darshan, Pooja Gandhi and others, also made it a point make their presence felt. Though the evening was not a celebration, celebrities came forward and shared the happier times they had spent with those who had left them. Some brought out the individuals behind the camera, while there were others who broke into a song which expressed more than words. “A group of us in Jayanagar and Basavanagudi had started a club called the meet, eat and chit-chat club. During these meetings of ours, I remember spending hours together listening to Ashwath’s tunes. He would first sing them to us and ask us for our responses. It seems like it was just the other day, we were doing that,” said actor Srinath.

While Bharati Vishnuvardhan did not attend the function, her dear friend Saroja Devi gave an insight into the couple’s relationship and her friendship with them. “Bharati and I go a long way. We have done many movies together in Tamil as well. On seeing her and Vishnu together, one could feel the love they shared. In their individual lives, they were the perfect children, friends, partners and parents,” said Saroja Devi.

A very teary-eyed Ambareesh still couldn’t believe that his dear friend was no more. “His last words are still ringing in my ears. I didn’t want to come here today, but I had to come and thank all those, who came for his funeral,” he added. While bidding adieu was hard for many, the evening was dispersed with promises and hope of a brighter future.
