Aiming to make Tirupati a safe city, police on Friday began a massive project to install CCTV cameras across the temple town.

Rayalaseema Inspector General V V Gopala Krishna launched the initiative to install 184 CCTV cameras and new traffic signals covering the entire city, under the mission “Safe City-Tirupati”.

Under the project, which is the brainchild of the IG, a state-of-the-art command and control centre has been set up to monitor thefts, traffic violations and other crimes through cameras installed in 35 strategic locations at a cost of Rs 2.5 crore.
