Clarify BJP's stand on Godse issue: Cong MP to PM

Last Updated 05 February 2015, 16:13 IST

Expressing concerns over bid to name a bridge in Rajasthan after Nathuram Godse, a Congress MP today said there have been "sustained and deliberate attempts to project Nathuram Godse as a national hero" and asked the Prime Minister to clarify his party's stand on this issue.

"Earlier also attempts were made to celebrate his birth anniversary as 'Shourya Diwas'. Such attempts should not be allowed to continue as they vitiate communal harmony and lead to destruction," Husain Dalwai, a Rajya Sabha MP from Maharashtra, said in a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Dalwai also asked the Prime Minister to clarify his party's stand on this issue.

He demanded that the matter of naming the bridge in Alwar district be investigated at the highest level and those involved be punished. "Let a clear message go to the country," he said.

He wondered whether such attempts are not a threat to the communal harmony of the country. "Masses have voted for this government on development issues. Let us not forget this," he wrote to the Prime Minister.
