Vendor sets neighbour's shop on fire

A vegetable vendor set fire to a neighbouring shop over business rivalry near Bhuvaneshwari Nagar early Saturday morning.

According to  Amruthalli Police, Ashok, who was jealous of Somashekar doing good business, set his shop on fire at around 1.30 am. As he was coming out of the shop after committing the misdeed, the door fell on him causing him injuries.

The night patrol police noticed the fire and alerted the fire service. They also saw Ashok injured and shifted him to a hospital. They later learnt that he had set fire to the shop over business rivalry. Somashekar, who was informed about the incident, lodged a complaint. The police said they would arrest Ashok after his discharge from the hospital.

Woman mowed down

A 70-year-old woman died after she was knocked down by a car near St John's Hospital in Audugodi area on Saturday morning.

According to the police, the deceased has been identified as Marisiddamma, a resident of Chikkanayakanahalli. Around 6.30 am, a speeding car struck her while she was crossing the road. The driver of the car, Chandini Raheja, a resident of JP Nagar, rushed the victim to hospital, where she died of injuries, the police said. Raheja has been arrested.

Rs 6.5 lakh stolen


A finance manager of a private firm complained to the KG Halli police on Saturday that Rs 6.5 lakh cash he had kept in his motorbike’s utility box had been stolen near HBR Layout.
Shariff, a resident of Govindpura, claimed that he had drawn the cash from a bank in Cox Town and was returning to his office.

En route, Shariff stopped his bike to have some fruit. Later, when he checked the bike, he found that the cash was missing.

The police said they would question Shariff as we was making contradictory statements.
