Students identify, count 150 trees at inventory programme

Last Updated 08 February 2015, 20:04 IST

In an effort to educate schoolchildren about the importance of planting trees, a tree inventory programme was held in Vidyaranyapura, asking children to adopt trees by writing their names on them with eco-friendly paints.

Students of Holy Faith Public School and NMKRV College for Women identified over 150 trees with the help of Tree Vijay. Flagging off the event, environmentalist Saalumarada Thimmakka stressed the need to plant more and more trees, especially in a concrete jungle like Bengaluru. “Plant a sapling, pour a small bowl of water every day and see how the tree grows magically,” she told the children.

Raise awareness

Sharath Babu, Conservator of Forests, BBMP, said the idea behind organising the programme was to raise awareness among the public about tree species in lakes, thereby conserving the waterbodies and their biodiversity.

The event was organised by the nonprofit, My Bhumi—a Trust for Global Consciousness.
