Last Updated 09 February 2015, 19:02 IST

In two separate incidents, a 20-year-old Japanese tourist was raped while another Colombian national was harassed by a driver of the Ola cab service in Jaipur. The cab driver has been arrested by the police while the accused of raping the Japanese woman is still absconding.

According to the police, the Japanese tourist met the accused during her visit to the Jal Mahal monument in Jaipur. The accused introduced himself as a tourist guide and offered her the complete sight seeing in Jaipur.

Under the pretext of sight seeing, the accused took the victim to Mojamabad village on the Jaipur-Ajmer highway and allegedly raped her on the road-side. The victim screamed for help following which a few villagers rushed to the crime spot. But the accused managed to flee from the scene.

“A case of rape has been registered against the accused but the victim is unable to recall his name or identity. The man was fluent in English and introduced himself as a certified tourist guide.

The woman thought he will help her in visiting Jaipur as she does not understand the local language. Thus, she agreed to roam around in the city with him,” said Dharam Chand Jain, IG, Jaipur range.

We are trying to get minor details about the accused and will soon release his sketch, he added.

According to the police, the Japanese embassy has been informed about the incident and the woman has been sent for medical examination. Since a foreigner is involved, the police have mobilised all its resources to nab the culprit.

The incident was reported around 2 am on Monday night.

“We have received some vital clues about the accused. Before leaving for Mojamabad village, the accused had taken the victim to a few tourist places in Jaipur. We are in process of scanning the CCTV footage of all such places,” said a senior police official.

In another incident, a driver of Ola Cab service and one of his customers have been arrested by the police for harassing a Colombian national by sending obscene messages and making undue offer.

The 22-year-old Colombian woman reported the matter to Jawahar Nagar police station.
According to the police, the woman is a student of hotel management and would often hire the cab for going to her college.

The driver already had her mobile number which he shared with his another customer to send obscene messages.

“We have arrested the cab driver Deepak Sharma and his customer Pramod Sharma who is student of pharmacy. Obscene messages were send through their mobiles and they also tried to convince the victim to get undue advantage,” said Rajiv Rahar, SHO Jawahar  Nagar police station.
