Forest Minister Ramanath Rai said a departmental inquiry had been ordered into the charges of violation of rules in recruitments in the Forest department.

Replying to a question by Arun Shahapur (BJP) in the Legislative Council on Wednesday, the minister said directions had been issued to submit the inquiry report within six months. The additional chief secretary of the department has been asked to probe the charges. An administrative officer and a manager have been suspended in this connection, he said.

The irregularities run into crores of rupees and the related files have gone missing, Shahpur said, and suggested that the case be referred to the Lokayukta.

K S Eshwarappa (BJP) said officers of higher ranks had looted the money, but the government had taken action against only lower rank officers. In his reply, Rai said no one who had committed offence would be protected.
