JD(S) MLA Zameer Khan has already begun attracting voters by offering honeymoon trips to the couples getting married in mass marriage programme sponsored by him.
Zameer Khan has been organising mass marriage programmes since he was elected as MLA. He held the programmes for Muslims and Hindus two times each.

This time it is only for Hindus. Every time he distributed gifts to the newly married couples and offered them honeymoon trip to Ooty. The couples tying the knot in the programme will get gifts worth Rs 50,000 each.

Conditions apply!

The condition to get these benefits is that either of the couple should be a resident of Chamarajpet constituency, represented by Zameer Khan.  “The MLA is offering about 8 gm of gold jewellery to each bride. Each couple get an almirah, a cot, clothes and utensils. On an average each pair gets gifts worth Rs 50,000”, ex-corporator Chandrashekhar, in-charge of purchases, said.

All couples would be sent to Ooty in different batches by buses belonging to National Travels, owned by the MLA. “We will make arrangements for the couples in a good hotel in Ooty. Khan has tie-up with many hoteliers in Ooty”, Chandrashekhar said.

The MLA had announced January 5 as the last day to register names for the mass marriage. As many as 105 couples have registered.  The organisers will make arrangements for food for all those who attend the programme. The MLA is expecting a turnout of 25,000 people for the event.

The programme is scheduled for January 17, while the model code of conduct comes into effect from January 15. As per the code political parties or candidates ‘bribing’ voters amounts to clear violation. In this case the programme is being organised by a JD(S) MLA and top leaders of the party including Deve Gowda, Kumaraswamy will attend the event to be held at Maratha Hostel on Bull Temple Road.

Pamphlets distributed

The pamphlets, distributed in the Chamarajpet constituency to popularise the programme, carry photos of Chandrashekhar, Arif Pasha, Suri and S M Sardar - all aspiring for JD(S) tickets to contest from wards in the Chamarajpet constituency. Of them Chandrashekhar and Arif Pasha are ex-corporators.
