'I play a rough and tough character'

Imaginations as well as expectations are running wild. The much-awaited and much-talked about movie ‘DK’ hit the screens this weekend. Director-turned-actor Prem returned to acting after a long gap with ‘DK’ in which he plays an interesting character.

Prem observes that the movie has raised the expectations of people and the songs too seem to have caught their attention.

“The movie is truly different and people began talking about the songs even before the release. The teaser got three lakh viewers on the first day,” he states.

Prem constantly experiments with his looks. “I keep changing my looks for every film. It helps one stay in touch with the latest styles,” he says but this seems to be the first time that Prem has gone the whole hog to look like a different man altogether. “I’ve shed 11 kilos. I didn’t starve but ate the right kind of food and my regular, disciplined exercise routines helped,” he adds.

It’s not just the storyline, even the title is pretty catchy and Prem thinks that the title of a movie does a lot to bring in the crowd. “I play a rough and tough character called ‘DK’ in the movie. He’s a simple guy but believes that he can change a lot of things around him,” Prem says.

He thinks movies touch people’s lives. “There can be a different take on the ordinary things in life. I also got asked by a lot of people whether the movie has been made about a popular politician but I reiterate that this movie has nothing to do with the politician. This film is inspired by the life of a politician but not entirely based on him. There are several things about him that have impressed us,” Prem philosophises.

Sunny Leone has grooved to an item number in the movie. “There’s a certain perception that people have about Sunny, so it was indeed a challenge for us to project her in a different way. Here, she has grooved to a Kannada folk song,” he says.

Prem has currently signed up for four projects and hopes to direct as soon as he comes across a good script. “In acting, you just have to do what the director tells but as a director, every shot and every frame is decided by you. These are two different things altogether,” he sums up.
