Social networking platform WhatsApp helped recover a 12-year-old boy who had gone missing from a market in Chandni Chowk. The boy’s photograph was circulated among all policemen in the area in a bid to track him and that helped, said police.

A native of Hapur in Uttar Pradesh, Ritik had come to Delhi a few days ago with his parents to visit his relatives staying here. They were to catch a train back to their native place on Thursday. Since their train was delayed, the family decided to visit the Chandni Chowk area.

The boy’s mother went inside a Shani temple leaving Ritik outside. When she returned, he was missing. When a search in the immediate surroundings of the temple yielded no results, she approached police.

Along with other details, the boy’s mother also handed over a photograph of the boy to the local police. The photograph was circulated among all the policemen in the area through their WhatsApp group and a search for Ritik was launched.

Sharing the photograph proved effective as a head constable found a boy wandering in the Parathe Waali Gali in the area. The policeman immediately checked with the picture in his mobile phone and found that it was the same boy. Police ruled out any foul play and said the boy had loitered away.
