A 28-year-old person was arrested by the CCB sleuths recently for cheating unemployed youths, after promising jobs for them in major IT companies.

Vineet Kumar, a native of Uttar Pradesh, was arrested based on a complaint filed by the representative of a multinational company (MNC).

The complainant stated that a few unknown persons were posting fake advertisements on a couple of online job portals like shine.com and jobguru.com

The ads asked the interested candidates to mail their resumes to email ids given thereof. In reality, the companies mentioned in the ads did not have vacancies.

The police said that once the aspirants sent their resumes, they would ask them to deposit a certain amount of money as processing fees. After a few days, they would send mails to the aspirant, saying that they had been selected for the interview and the details of the interview would be conveyed only after they deposit an amount ranging from Rs 25,000 to Rs one lakh. The scamsters had given their bank account numbers in which the money was to be deposited.

A senior police officer said, “The police arrested the accused after scrutinising the bank accounts and it was found that the accounts were in the name of Apex India Career Service, a placement agency in Noida. The scam did not come to light as most of the aspirants had deposited small amounts of money and they did not bother to approach the police. It is only after a few people from the companies approached us that we arrested the person.

He has cheated several aspirants in a similar manner. The police are investigating to find out if more people are involved in the scam.” A case has been registered by the Pulakeshi Nagar police.
