Following the allegations of selling adulterated fuel, a petrol bunk has been sealed on the outskirts of the city on Monday. Bhyraveshwara Fuel Service Centre, a sales outlet of Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited (HPCL), located at K R Mills Colony on Mysuru-Bengaluru road was sealed, after a car developed technical snag, soon after tanking up the vehicle with petrol on Monday night. The samples of petrol has been collected and will be sent to tests for laboratories.

Four cars from Bengaluru were filled with petrol on Monday around 10.30 pm. However, after going a little distance, one of the cars stopped midway, forcing the occupants to suspect foul play. They pushed the car back till the bunk and informed the jurisdictional N R Police. Police who rushed to the spot, arranged for removing the fuel tank of the car only to find the fuel in the form of liquid akin to water.

According to the police, trouble started soon after unloading the fresh stock from a tanker from Hassan. All the four vehicles were filled with petrol from the same pump.

On Tuesday, Senior Deputy Director of Food and Civil Supplies Department K Rameshwarappa accompanied by Subrato Chatterjee Area Sales Officer of HP Mysuru area visited the bunk.
Chatterjee said that following the directions of the Central government, 10 per cent blending of ethanol with petrol had been initiated. The samples have been collected and the petrol bunk has been sealed till the results are obtained, he said. Rameshwarappa added that as per the Essential Commodities Act, the bunk has been sealed till  further orders. However, barring a petition from one of the car owners, no complaint has been lodged at the station.
