Traffic chaos en route to air show

Last Updated 19 February 2015, 19:09 IST

The huge turnout on day two of the ongoing Aero India show at the Yelahanka Airbase triggered mammoth traffic jams on Airport Road. If this was the case on Thursday, the City traffic police are looking at bigger traffic issues this weekend.

On Thursday morning, the traffic police struggled to direct the long line of cars heading towards the air show away from Airport Road. The entire lane of the elevated highway leading to the airport was earmarked for vehicles heading towards KIA and beyond. This only added to the congestion on the service road.

Security checks at the gates of the venue made cars wait longer, triggering further trouble for the police. The evening rush towards the City was worse. Vehicles that exited the Yelahanka Air Base gates at 5.30 pm reached MG Road only by 7 pm.

Contraflow
From February 20 to 22, the Bengaluru police will allow contraflow of traffic (reversal of normal direction) on the Ballari Road flyover (from Coffee Day junction at Yelahanka to the Indian Air Force junction) for vehicles heading towards Kemepegowda International Airport (KIA) from 6 am to 10 pm. This will also be applicable to those heading to the air show through Gate-5.

Vehicles heading into the City from KIA should take the service road at the entrance of the IAF junction and reach the Coffee Day junction at Yelahanka. Those heading for the air show from the City should use the service road from the Coffee Day junction at Yelahanka, the police advised.
